Estate Planning is Very Important During this Pandemic

The Covid 19 pandemic has brought great challenges to our world. Estate planning law firms were deemed nonessential businesses during the stay-at-home orders. Throughout this difficult time, we received numerous phone calls and emails from new clients and existing clients wanting to make sure their affairs were in order.

Whether it meant reviewing existing wills, powers of attorney or health care proxies, or creating these important documents for people who don’t have them, never has it been more important to ensure that you are protected in the event of an illness.

The greatest challenge that we are currently facing as a law firm is how to best serve the client while maintaining a safe environment for both our staff and the client.

The Koldin Law Center Office is Now Open

We are very proud of the steps we have taken to serve our clients in these trying times. We are very pleased that the governor has allowed our entire staff to return to the office.

We have taken great measures to make sure that our office complies with the requirements necessary to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.

We have also created a procedure that has allowed our office to continue the exceptional services that our clients have enjoyed over the last 50 years.

Our clients are still able to sign new documents, including wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies and trusts.

We are also available to handle the Medicaid Application process for you to ensure that your rights are protected.

This newsletter will outline our current procedures until we are able to meet with clients in the traditional manner.

Our Office Procedure During this Pandemic

Step 1: Initial Meeting by Telephone or Videoconferencing

Any meeting with clients to discuss or review their estate planning needs will either be done over the phone or through videoconferencing via FaceTime or a Zoom conference.

During this meeting, it will be as if the client is in our office. The attorney will obtain all necessary information to allow us to prepare whatever estate planning documents are necessary for the client.

Step 2:  Send Prepared Documents to Client

Once our office has prepared the documents, we will email or mail the documents directly to the client for the client’s review.

Step 3:  Document Review Meeting by Telephone or Videoconferencing

Our office will schedule another telephone or video conference, where the attorney will review the documents in detail with the client as if the client was sitting in a conference room in our office.

Once the client has reviewed the documents with the attorney, the next step will be the signing of the documents.

Step 4:  Document Signing at Our Office Parking Lot

The signing at our office will normally take place at a table in our parking lot, where the clients can sit and our staff will stay more than 6 feet away while wearing a face covering.

This parking lot signing procedure will not be a lengthy process because we will have already reviewed all of the documents during the prior virtual meeting.

The table and chairs will be cleaned with disinfectant both before and after the meeting. If the client wishes to stay in his or her car, the client may sign the documents without leaving the car.

This process has worked seamlessly so far and creates a healthy and safe environment for both our staff and for the clients, while providing the clients with exceptional service.

The feedback from our clients has been extremely positive.  During this process, our clients receive the same time, attention and care as if they were in our office.

We look forward to our continued relationship with our existing clients and welcome new relationships with future clients.
